Just a week after the successful naming ceremony of Ussama Bhum and Varanya Bhum in Japan on 27 August 2024, Regional Container Lines Public Company Limited (RCL) took delight in unveiling its two latest maritime additions on 3 September 2024, the HEMMA BHUM and ITTHI BHUM each with capacity of 7,000 TEUs. The grand naming ceremony, hosted at the Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Yard in China where the ships were built, signifies a pivotal moment in RCL's mission to elevate its fleet and broaden its service across the Asia-Pacific region.

The HEMMA BHUM which translates to “Golden Land,” was christened by Mrs. Nintira Sophonpanich, sponsor lady with Mr. Chartsiri Sophonpanich, President of Bangkok Bank, attending as the guest of honour. This vessel's name carries deep cultural resonance, reflecting RCL’s aspirations for prosperity in its maritime endeavours.

Meanwhile, the ITTHI BHUM meaning “Successful Land,” embodies RCL's commitment to achieving ongoing success and excellence in the shipping sector. Mrs. Charunee Chinwongvorakul, the vessel's sponsor lady, was joined by Mr. Vichit Chinwongvorakul, Chairman of Chinwong Food Company Limited, who served as the guest of honour for this occasion.

The event was further distinguished by the presence of RCL's senior leadership, including Mr. Sumate Tanthuwanit, Chairman of the Executive Committee, and Dr. Twinchok Tanthuwanit, President of RCL, underscoring the importance of this milestone for the company.

Reflecting on the event, Dr. Twinchok Tanthuwanit asserted, “The naming of the HEMMA BHUM and ITTHI BHUM marks a thrilling new phase for RCL. These vessels are not merely additions to our fleet but are emblematic of our dedication to growth, innovation, and excellence in every journey we embark on.”

Both vessels commenced their maiden voyages on the very day they were commissioned into service with RCL and PIL. With these two 7000 TEUs series now being part of its fleet, RCL is poised to enhance its operational capacity, thereby improving service efficiency and reliability for its clients and partners. This expansion aligns perfectly with RCL's strategic goals for growth and maritime excellence.

In addition, RCL signed new-building contracts for two (2) more vessels of same size (7000 TEUs) with the long-trusted Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Yard. These new orders will feature the latest Energy Saving Devices (ESD) and Dual Fuel Ready notation, well equipped to meet future clean propulsion requirements. Attractive point is the delivery dates, being set between 2026 and 2028, aligns perfectly with RCL's fleet enhancement strategy.
